This Heat

Description

Reissued by the band's new label, This Heat Records, this album features a 24-bit / 96 kHz remastering done from the original analog tapes. The edition offers a 180 g vinyl and a high-quality sleeve faithful to the original release from 1979. The band This Heat is considered one of the major pioneers of post-punk, even though their beginnings date back to 1976, at the very start of the London punk scene. Their music blended experimental rock, sound collages, tape manipulations, improvisation, and avant-garde electronics, later influencing genres like post-rock and math rock. Their first album, often nicknamed "Blue and Yellow," was recorded between 1976 and 1978 in several studios, including their own space, Cold Storage. The record stands out for its innovative approach: tape loops, dissonant structures, live performances, and unsettling atmospheres. Some tracks, like "Water," were entirely improvised in the studio. Many experimental artists and bands have acknowledged the lasting influence of This Heat, including Sonic Youth, Radiohead, and Swans. Despite their breakup in 1982, their reputation and historical significance have continued to grow.
