The Who Sell Out

Description

After having battered Buckingham Palace with My Generation and other Kids Are Alright, The Who shift up a gear in the humor department with a hilarious cover, fake ad jingles scattered throughout the album, and above all a richly developed semantic layer. At first glance disorienting, The Who Sell Out is a great kaleidoscopic pop parade with psychedelic flavors (Armenia City In The Sky, I Can See For Miles, Relax), dreamy and peaceful ones (Tatoo), and already hinting, a few years before Tommy, at rock opera structures (Rael 1 & 2). With this record, the band led by Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend takes on a whole new dimension, entering the very exclusive club of pop sound architects that includes the Beatles, the Stones and the Beach Boys. Psychedelic pop at its peak!
