If there’s a band that isn’t ready to hang up their gloves, it’s certainly The Waterboys. Here is All Souls Hill, their 15th album - an album that Scott describes as "a unique Waterboys record due to the level of collaboration." The bulk of this nine-song album consists of six tracks written with Simon Dine, a Manchester-based producer/writer. Music legend Robbie Robertson is also featured. Scott covers the Canadian's 2019 song, Once Were Brothers. "It’s partially rewritten by me, with Robbie's permission, which was unexpected and incredibly gracious of him. Once Were Brothers is a very beautiful song, but I thought, 'I wish he had said more.' I found myself writing additional lyrics for it." The 1948 country-folk standard, Passing Through, is reborn with freshly written verses by Scott in the form of a nine-minute gospel epic, and the elegiac Hollywood Blues is co-written with Waterboys' keyboardist, James Hallawell. Rock’n roll, galloping piano, electronic ballad, country folk, politicized poetry, spoken word… this is what’s on the menu for this 15th album from this unconventional band. The Irish formation still has its say and continues to dig deeper into its musical groove.
