The Viscaynes & Friends

Description

Formed in Vallejo, California, in the 1950s, The Viscaynes were a high school doo-wop group. They are said to be the first vocal group recorded by Sylvester Stewart (aka Sly Stone), and the starting point of his long career. The group gained some notoriety after an appearance on the TV show "Dick Stewart's Dance Party," after which they were introduced to producer George Motola. Ranked in KYA radio's Top 60 in 1961, "Yellow Moon" became a hit for The Viscaynes, although the group broke up around the same time. "The Viscaynes & Friends" is the group's first official studio album, brought to light after the discovery of a master tape more than half a century after their split. The album includes seven tracks by Sly and The Viscaynes, as well as one track by The Individuals and two by The Precisions, all produced by Motola.
