Triptides is getting rid of the word "psychedelic" from its vocabulary. Perhaps because after more than a decade of adventurous songs and albums across genres and styles - ranging from chamber pop to progressive rock to Laurel Canyon country - the term "interdimensional" seems more fitting for the Southern California-based group. Driven by the songwriting spirit of multi-instrumentalist Glenn Brigman alongside his long-time collaborator and multi-instrumentalist Stephen Burns, Triptides navigates through a galaxy of music following only its own compass. And with their latest album, "Starlight" (set to be released in April 2023 via Curation Records), the duo proves there is much more they wish to explore. In an almost jazzy fusion of electric keyboard textures and dancefloor grooves, the latest eleven-track album dives into the worlds of Stereolab, Steely Dan, and Cortex. With tightly woven rhythmic guitars and bass lines, combined with Brigman's keen sense of melody and harmony, there is a new energy that shines with "Starlight." It is quite different from last year's laid-back acoustic drummer, "So Many Days," and it is light-years away from the band's surf-rock-cassette era. But despite the unexpected shifts, from the sounds and structures, you can instantly tell that it’s Triptides at the wheel, ready to propel you to another star.
