Remastered at Abbey Road Studios by Matt Johnson, and packaged in a sumptuous 12' box set, this edition, released exclusively on vinyl, includes an authentic reproduction of the 1983 edition on 180g vinyl, as well as a bonus 12' vinyl of remixes and alternate versions in a gatefold sleeve. The remastered sound was also digitized/encoded from the original vinyl records from Matt Johnson’s original 1982 Thorens TD-147 gramophone, using the patented “Dubbed-From-Disc” technology. This digital version is downloadable via a code included in the box set. The box set also includes a unique newspaper-style poster with notes written by Johnson detailing the making of the album. The deluxe 30th anniversary edition of Soul Mining is faithful to Johnson’s original tracklisting, with the absence of “Perfect” from the main album. Johnson had always had the idea that the album should end with “Giant,” but “Perfect” was added by the American label without Johnson’s consent. The tracks from the original cassette version were also excluded insofar as they were demos made as part of the re-recording of Pornography Of Despair, a project that was ultimately abandoned and which was originally meant to be the first album by The The. These tracks therefore had no place on Soul Mining.
