THE THE is and will always be synonymous with Matt Johnson, its founder and lead singer since the band's creation in 1979 in London, capturing the world's attention with the synth-noir masterpiece Soul Mining in 1983. Acclaimed by critics, THE THE achieved international fame three years later with its album Infected, which features the hits "Sweet Bird Of Truth" and "Heartland." After a break of more than twenty years, during which Matt Johnson pursued various projects, THE THE made a triumphant return in 2021 with the live album The Comeback Special. In 2024, Matt Johnson and THE THE are finally back with Ensoulment, their highly anticipated 8th studio album consisting of 12 tracks that honor the band's distinctive sound.
