Meet The Supremes

The Supremes enter history. While in the sixties, female vocal groups are numerous, it is the one featuring Diana Ross, Florence Ballard, and Mary Wilson that becomes the epitome of the genre. The album includes early singles but does not contain any of the hits that will soon make them legends. Smokey Robinson writes “Your Heart Belongs to Me,” “Who’s Loving You,” and “You Bring Back Memories” for them, while Berry Gordy himself gets involved and signs “Baby Don’t Go,” “Buttered Popcorn,” “I Want a Guy”... The three girls share the lead depending on the songs, as the group is not yet called Diana Ross & The Supremes. As for the songs, they are honest melodies with still some traces of doo-wop, in the spirit of the 1950s. But the secret formula is soon discovered, which will make this trio a landmark in the history of pop music.
