Tired of punk, Paul Weller disbanded The Jam in 1982, at the height of its success. He wants to incorporate elements of soul, rhythm'n'blues, and jazz into his writing, which he will be able to do with his new partner, pianist Mick Talbot, in this new formation. After an excellent first EP, Introducing, the Style Council releases this album that will make punks scream: synths, trumpets, jazz guitar, and dripping piano are on the agenda of this nostalgically chic record. But success will once again be on the horizon, thanks to Weller's talent for writing perfect pop songs, regardless of the packaging he concocts for them, here the very soulful "My Ever Changing Moods" (a piano and a voice, magnificent), "You're The Best Thing," and "Headstart For Happiness."
