Just as the construction term "sistering" refers to strengthening a beam by adding another, these four powerful voices have joined forces to create a new musical collective, The Sistering. Hailing from North Carolina, these longtime friends - Lois Deloatch, Nnenna Freelon, Lenora Zenzalai Helm, and Kate McGarry - have collaborated on their upcoming album, The Sistering. This 12-track album features original compositions blending jazz, ballads, gospel, and folk, addressing themes of life, family, and grief. For each artist, this collaboration has been a deeply enriching experience. Deloatch describes the project as "art, life, truth, and clarity," a gathering of "sincere friends" to "write, sing, remember, dream, and celebrate one another." Freelon calls it "the most fulfilling artistic connection" she has experienced in a long time, emphasizing that "creative friction" stimulates each artist while encouraging, pulling, and supporting them. Helm believes The Sistering has helped her experience sisterhood in a new way and thrive as a creative woman.
