Description

High Hopes features 17 songs over 40 minutes on a single slice of vinyl that, as announced, is nothing like last month's EP, High Dreams. Here, rather than a long dance form, it continues the rhythm of the band from the last album, a collection of moments presented as ideas, like a narrative filled with oddities and surprises that reward attentive listening. What we hear on High Hopes is The Mole's exploration of a love letter, from one person to a family, from the Pacific Northwest to the South Atlantic, from a boy to a painted bird. From Vancouver Island to Manantiales. The Mole is joined by friends and colleagues on several songs included in High Hopes. Rick May plays bass on Que Rico and on GoinF4er, the album's flagship track. Sophie Trudeau (Godspeed You Black Emperor) plays and arranges the violins on GoinF4er, and Danuel Tate (Cobblestone Jazz) and Julz Chaz (Wagon Repair) play Vibes and Emaxx throughout the album.
