Each brings a unique approach to the compositions. The band bridges the gap between jazz and soul. Their music has provided the foundation for some of modern hip-hop's most successful beats. Their tracks have been sampled by Eminem, Jay-Z, Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, 50 Cent and Curren$y, to name a few. When The Menahan Street Band was formed in 2007, each member already had solid experience. As musicians and founders of various projects at Daptone Records, they discovered a shared love for hip-hop and rock’n’roll, as well as other eccentric sub-genres that pushed them to stray from soul and funk music. Their desire was to create music with a broader spectrum, encompassing their eclectic influences and tastes, their versatility. This led to the release of their first album, Make the Road by Walking, in 2008. In 2021, the band finally returns with The Exciting Sounds of Menahan Street Band. A third album that reveals new dimensions, in tone and timbre, but also in sound and visual atmospheres. The universe developed by artist Ariana Papademetropoulis for the artwork perfectly matches the analog musical arsenal used for the album's production.
