Una poesia muta : Art in the Venice of the early Cinquecento is the result of a collaboration between SWR radio, Staatsgalerie Stuttgart and The Marian Consort. The first exhibition in Germany devoted to Vittore Carpaccio and his contemporaries, organized by the Stuttgart museum, inspired The Marian Consort to put together an album to accompany this artistic journey. As one of the famous painters of the early Renaissance in Venice, Carpaccio must certainly have been familiar with the music and composers recorded here, all of whom had very strong ties to the city at that time. While some are well known today – Josquin, Jean Mouton, Adrian Willaert – others deserve greater recognition. As usual, The Marian Consort and its director Rory McCleery offer a fascinating and superbly sung program.
