Tchaïkovski : Concerto pour violon, Lalo : Symphonie espagnole

Description

Dark in Sibelius's Concerto for Hannu Lintu, a mysterious performer in a memorable "Tree of Dreams" for Dutilleux's cycle with Ludovic Morlot in Seattle, here is Augustin Hadelich, thirty-two years old, confronting his bow with two major works of concert literature that are completely opposed. His Tchaikovsky may seem a bit disjointed, so concerned with lyricism, often confined to asides, sometimes cautious in the virtuosic passages and with a pinched high register. Perhaps an off night, which is further emphasized by the uncertain accompaniment of Vasily Petrenko, whose orchestra only truly speaks when the soloist is absent. As the concert progresses, they find a connection, yet this does not give us a Tchaikovsky concerto to simply remember. What a contrast is produced by the "Spanish Symphony" captured a year earlier, where his bow flies, full of fantasy, nurturing a sound that knows how to be light, intoxicating like a perfume. He suddenly feels at home in this characterful genre portrait, despite the somewhat stiff framework set by Omer Meir Wellber. But how it sings in the grand lyrical movements, and shines in a cheeky yet tender Scherzando. A half-record, then, which at least adds a gem to the treasure of this young violinist so different from the impeccable virtuosos (Discophilia - Artalinna.com). (Jean-Charles Hoffelé)
