The Lijadu Sisters and Numero Group announce a major partnership that is both a reissue and a reclamation: a celebration and a critical reevaluation of the musical and political impact of the two iconic artists who have influenced and uplifted generations, while spending nearly six decades without the respect and recognition they deserve. Twin sisters Yeye Taiwo Lijadu and the late Kehinde Lijadu, one of the few female musical groups from Nigeria's cultural golden age, released five albums in the 1970s. Throughout the 20th century and into the early 2000s, the Lijadu sisters were subject to illicit exploitation of their recordings, image, and name, as well as copyright violations, deeply ingrained sexist and racist prejudices. In 2021, they finally regained control of their catalog. The reissue collection begins with the release of a restored edition of Horizon Unlimited from 1979, which features the hit "Come On Home." It’s the insurgent afro funk that their second cousin Fela sought to create. A music full of soul, psychedelic, feminist, and revolutionary. Numero Group will reissue each of the group's albums, rediscovered singles, promo EPs, and rare recordings. Included are the first transcription of the lyrics in Yoruba and English, corrected album credits, the original cover art, and other bonuses.
