The Kraken Consort was born in 2021 from the imagination of three musicians, friends, and colleagues: theorbo player Bruno Helstroffer, soprano Chantal Santon Jeffery, and tenor Robert Getchell, who is passionate about Celtic music. They share a common taste for oral and improvised traditions and wanted to collaborate with instrumentalists who have deep experience in traditional music: Ronan Pellen (cittern), Brewen Favrau (piper), Sylvain Barou (flute), David Lombardi (violin), Laurène Durantel (double bass). For their first album, the Kraken Consort revisits the musical traditions of Ireland and Scotland.
