Marking the 40th anniversary of The Jesus And Mary Chain, 'Glasgow Eyes' was recorded at Mogwai's Castle of Doom studio in Glasgow, where brothers Jim and William continued the creative process that led to their previous album, 'Damage and Joy' from 2017, which became their highest-charting album in the last twenty years. What emerges this time is the record of one of the UK's most influential bands embracing its second chapter, still as productive, their maelstrom of sweet and burning melody and controlled chaos influenced by their love for Suicide and Kraftwerk, as well as a new passion for the spontaneous side of jazz.
Jim Reid states: "But don't think that 'The Mary Chain has gone jazz'. People should expect a Jesus and Mary Chain record, and that's certainly what 'Glasgow Eyes' is. Our creative approach is remarkably the same as in 1984: going into the studio and seeing what happens. We went into the studio with a few songs and let things take their course. There are no rules, we do what feels right. And there is a certain telepathy between us - we are those weird twins who finish each other's sentences." "Glasgow Eyes" not only extends the story of The Jesus and Mary Chain, but it also resembles a return to their roots. Since the incendiary debut album "Psychocandy" and its classic "Just Like Honey," the Reid brothers have become outsiders who have managed to assert themselves uncompromisingly.
