The James Taylor Quartet is proud to present its brand new studio album Hung Up On You, an honest and sincere album! "Since the beginning of the year, I've started writing and playing again for my original 80s band, The Prisoners. At the end of a long writing session for them, I had a few leftover tracks and I didn't want them to go to waste, so I asked my band JTQ to try them out in rehearsal. The members of my band are jazz/funk musicians, although Andrew, our bassist, also plays bass for Pulp. When we started playing these tracks, they gave me some puzzled looks, but very quickly, we got some really exciting sounds. I suppose funk and soul are linked to rock'n'roll in some way, at least that's how I feel. We drew inspiration from bands like the Buzzcocks, the Rolling Stones, the Who, but we also included some Hammond funk instrumentals in the style of Jimmy McGriff, which clash with the punky stuff in a curious way, but because it's the same guys and the same recording session, etc., it's not incongruous. Anyway, I booked a studio and we recorded these tracks. We are very happy and excited about the result. I feel like I'm 17 again! - James Taylor. This energetic and varied album includes 11 finely crafted songs full of rock'n'roll attitude. Opening with a slice of punky/new wave rock'n'roll in the Medway style, the title track (and first single) sets the tone. Ten other tracks follow, including the upcoming singles Miss Your Life, which denounces the apathy and complacency of the British, and Put Your Hands Up, a track that recalls the time when James was part of The Prisoners and opened for the Ramones in 1986. We also love Small Thing, a soul funk instrumental where the Hammond organ reigns supreme! The sumptuous My Wife closes the album in the best possible way. Recorded and mixed at Ranscombe Studios in Chatham, Kent, the album was designed and mastered by Jim Riley. Hung Up On You is an auditory delight, and there’s something indefinable yet very special about this album that makes it irresistible!
