Scott "Wino" Weinrich's career becomes increasingly intense over time, and his cult but short-lived band The Hidden Hand is no exception. Formed in 2002 and already dissolved by 2007, the trio brought together Wino, Bruce Falkinburg (bass/composition/vocals), and drummer Dave Hennessy. If The Obsessed, St. Vitus, Shrinebuilder, Probot, and Spirit Caravan are not enough to elevate Wino's resume to legendary status, there's no need to continue reading. Excerpts from the liner notes written by Scott Weinrich: "When I came back from California after The Obsessed's contract with Columbia fell through, I had no gear left. After forming (SHINE), which would become Spirit Caravan, I worked hard to put together a guitar rig. I discovered ATOMIC MUSIC, a super cool store in MARYLAND that encouraged trades, with tons of killer gear. We met another guy, Sonny, who, as sociable and friendly as he was, became our buddy (the band) and introduced me to his friend whose recording studio shared the space with Atomic Music: Bruce Falkinburg and Phase Recording studio. We decided to diversify our recording approach and parted ways with one of my old friends, Chris Kozlowski, and PolarBearLair Studios, who had recorded everything Spirit Caravan had done up to that point. I hired Bruce to record the version of "Darkness and Longing," our track on the Sixty Watt Shaman / Spirit Caravan split single. What he did impressed us, and we decided to record more with Bruce at Phase: the last SC single — "So Mortal Be / Undone Mind" — and three tracks that would eventually be released on The Last Embrace. Bruce and I had solidified our friendship, and when everything fell apart with Spirit Caravan, we decided to form a band. Among a very interesting list of potential names, Bruce's idea, "The Hidden Hand," resonated the most. Once Bruce recruited Dave Hennessy (guitarist of OSTINATO) on drums, we were off. Over the following years, with a few drummer changes, The Hidden Hand recorded a single, a split EP, a track for a compilation, and three albums. Knowing Bruce and working with everyone in The Hidden Hand's sphere has greatly enriched my life. Bruce's enthusiasm, knowledge, creativity, intellect, and musical skills remain an inspiration."
