Clement "Sir Coxsone" Dodd, founder of the Studio One label, will forever remain among the most talented Jamaican music producers. From his prophetic Downbeats that influenced even our generations, to the creation of Studio One in the early 60s, Coxsone launched the careers of many artists: Bob Marley & The Wailers, Ken Boothe, Toots And The Maytals, The Skatalites… By the late 70s, he discovered the new musical signature of Jamaica: Dancehall. Its origins date back to the beginning of the decade with DJs like Dillinger and Prince Jazzbo, who adapted great classics to new musical sounds. Thus, the new wave of artists arriving at Studio One (Sugar Minott, Michigan and Smiley, Willie Williams, and Lone Ranger) allowed the studio to stay at the top of the charts. Thanks to the new technologies of the 70s, these artists were able to mix dub, deejaying, discomix, and synthesizers to create the sound of the future. Besides these new signings, Clement Dodd continued to enhance and evolve the music of his original artists towards a more contemporary trend (Alton Ellis, Horace Andy, Freddie McGregor, and Johnny Osbourne).
