The Groundhogs formed as a blues band in the early 60s. By 1970, when they recorded their third album, Thank Christ For The Bomb, they were evolving towards a rather heavy progressive rock sound. This album has been described as proto-punk and proto-grunge, and called "a masterpiece" by NME.
