Originally released in 1982, the group's debut album is filled with bouncing bass lines, raw trance-like grooves, and trippy psychedelic guitars, creating an unparalleled funk experience. The Good Samaritans is the edo funk project of Philosopher Okundaye, with whom he produced four albums, all recorded at Phonodisk Studio in Ijebu-Igbo, east of Lagos. Okundaye, who played many instruments, hired the right musicians for each project and mixed everything himself, is known as the composer of many of the famous hits that came out of Benin City in the 80s. His name keeps coming up, but his role in the scene remains somewhat unclear, giving the character the image of the gray eminence of edo funk. Due to its confidential pressing in a very limited edition, No Food Without Taste If By Hunger is very hard to find. With this limited reissue of 2000 copies—newly remastered by Nick Robbins and approved by Okundaye himself—The Good Samaritans makes a long-awaited return to turntables around the world.
