The 1950s, that crazy time when you could ride a motorcycle without a helmet, a cowboy guitar on your back. Brothers Phil and Don Everly are on the motorcycle on the right. They fell into music at a young age (their father was a musician), and they offered the second half of the fifties the first taste of their vocal harmonies, a clever mix of rock’n’roll, country heritage, and pop prettiness. This first album released in 1958 sounds like a juke-box for a campfire evening. They cover some hits of the moment with a very acoustic, soft, and clear sound: songs by Gene Vincent, Little Richard, Roy Orbison, Ray Charles, Titus Turner, and Felice and Boudleaux Bryant. The charm of their music arises from this complicity of two-voice singing. Future Beatles or Simon & Garfunkel surely listened a lot to these early works of the Everly Brothers.
