The reissue of "Absent Friends" as part of the group's 30th anniversary! Absent Friends was released in 2004. Neil says about the album: “The songs use stories and characters as frameworks to express my ideas. The album mainly talks about the struggle between the attraction to personal freedom and the comfort of family life.” It features the participation of Yann Tiersen. The CD edition includes 2 discs: the remastered album and a second CD of bonus tracks (B-sides, demos, and alternative takes chosen by Neil Hannon - most of them completely unreleased). The CD comes with a booklet of photos and notes written by Neil that discuss the context and inspirations behind this album and these tracks. The LP edition includes the original remastered album with a download code for the album and the bonus tracks.
