Early Symptons The Ultimate Rare Tracks (Radio Broadcast 1977/1981)

Description

The group The Cure originally formed in Crawley in 1976, when school friends came together under the name Malice. After a first lineup change among many others, they renamed themselves Easy Cure the following year. Performing in youth clubs and local venues, the band was driven by a shared enthusiasm for the urgency of punk and the immediacy of pop, tempered by an instinct for atmosphere and melody that already set them apart. What had begun as a teenage experiment quickly revealed a singular voice, with Robert Smith's songwriting and vision giving the band a clear direction from its earliest days.In 1978, the group changed its name to The Cure, marking a turning point in their sound as they began to refine their craft and explore darker, more atmospheric sonorities. The early recordings capture the raw energy of those formative years, as well as the growing sophistication perceptible in their first singles and albums. With albums like 'Three Imaginary Boys' (1979) and the dark, atmospheric 'Seventeen Seconds' (1980), The Cure decisively moved away from their punk roots, embracing space, restraint, and emotional tension, while managing the personnel changes that helped shape their ever-evolving identity. The recordings gathered here trace this journey in detail, all made between 1977 and 1981. Early versions, demos, rarities, and alternate takes unveil tracks in the process of being developed, offering a unique glimpse into the band's early days on the music scene. Together, they bear witness to the progression of a band moving from promising beginnings to a more assured and singular force, evolving toward the darker, more introspective gothic style that would soon become inseparable from its name.Unreleased until now, these tracks offer a rare and essential behind-the-scenes look. For die-hard fans as well as curious listeners, this CD is an indispensable addition to any collection, capturing the sound of a band finding its footing and laying the groundwork for one of music's most singular groups.
