"The Go's Free Electricity," the legendary and long-unavailable album by the band, is finally being released as it should be! The Go was formed in Detroit in 1996, under the leadership of Bobby Harlow, with Dave Buick on bass and Jack White on guitar. After the release of their first album, Whatcha Doin’, in 1999, and some lineup changes, the band entered the studio with Dion Fischer on lead guitar, John Olson (from Wolf Eyes) on saxophone, and Cary Loren (from Destroy All Monsters) to record their second album. During these sessions, the band and their producer, Matthew Smith (Outrageous Cherry), explored the outer limits of rock’n’roll, with resounding lead guitars, abundant reverb, and a strong jazz influence due to an intense immersion in 60s free jazz. The result bursts from the speakers with a cavernous sound, like a haunted frequency transmitted through the barrier of time from the Grande Ballroom around 1968, often recalling the records of Pharoah Sanders and Sun Ra more than those recorded by the Go's contemporaries on the 2000s rock’n’roll scene.
