Combat Rock

Description

In 1982, two years after the sprawling album that was “Sandinista”, the Clash returned to a more traditional format, and delivered a more concise record, but one that was striking in more ways than one. It would notably give the band two huge worldwide hits, Rock The Casbah, and Should I Stay Or Should I Go, which would moreover be the only track in the Clash’s history to reach No. 1 in England. If the format becomes more reasonable, the experiments remain bold, and the paths taken multiple, the quartet once again meets reggae and dub, occasionally invokes hip-hop, and takes care of bringing all these people together for a feast whose master of ceremonies remains rock. Unfortunately, this record would be the last to see the classic Clash lineup reunited, Topper Headon soon to resign, would very quickly be followed by Mick Jones who then wished to take an artistic direction going against the visions of his bandmates.
The historic Clash therefore disappeared at the height of its art, leaving behind an invaluable legacy of which, every month, new supposed testamentary heirs come to claim their share, vainly hoping to rekindle the spark, to make burn again a little of that regenerating fire that was the Clash.
