Although David Byron's musical career began in the mid-1960s in London, the rock singer born David Garrick will always be closely associated with Uriah Heep. Alongside Uriah Heep for ten classic albums, from their debut "...Very 'Eavy ...Very 'Umble' (1970) to "High And Mighty" (1976), Byron released his first solo LP in 1975 with "Take No Prisoners".
In 1981, David Byron teamed up with Robin George to form The Byron Band. With Robin George on guitars (also adding bass on "Little By Little"), Mel Collins on saxophone, Bob Jackson on keyboards, Roger Flavelle on bass, John Shearer on drums, and The Powder Puffs adding backing vocals, The Byron Band released 'On The Rocks' (CD1), their debut for Creole Records, in 1981. Featuring eight tracks, including the single 'Rebecca', this collection also includes the non-album single 'Every Inch Of The Way', 'Routine', the B-side of "Every Inch Of The Way" and "Tired Eyes", the B-side of "Rebecca".
CD2 contains 13 writing pieces, home demos from 1982, including "She Was Good", "Fool For A Pretty Face" and "My Kind Of Lady".
CD3 starts with a 1981 rehearsal recording, including "How Do You Sleep?", "Safety In Numbers" and "I Need Love", all written by David Byron and Robin George. The rehearsal recording is followed by a rare live show, recorded in Liverpool in 1980. The Liverpool show features "Bad Girl", "Start Believing", "How Do You Sleep?", "Piece Of My Love" from "On The Rocks", covers that will please fans of Uriah Heep classics "July Morning" and "Sweet Lorraine", and ends with "Roll Over Beethoven" by Chuck Berry. CD3 concludes with "AngelSong", a lighter piece by Robin George recorded in 1985 with Charlie Morgan on drums and Pino Palladino on bass, included in tribute to David Byron.
Byron sadly passed away at the age of 38 at his home in Berkshire in 1985.
