Le Quatuor Budapest remains the premier interpreter of Mozart's chamber music, highlighting expressionism and modernity. The ten string quartets from Mozart's full maturity are gathered for the first time in a single box under the bows of the Budapest Quartet. Joseph Roisman, their primarius, made a sensation with his lively and virtuosic style, accentuating contrasts, little inclined to respect the practices of the time, among others, repeats and da capo. He would show how to update this prophetic sum and pave the way for his young colleagues such as Norbert Brainin (Amadeus), Robert Mann (Juilliard), and finally Günter Pichler (Berg Quartet). The Budapest Quartet, at its full bloom (1953-67), remains the first interpreter who dared to highlight its astonishing expressionism and modernity.
