An absolutely essential piece of Allman Brothers Band history, The Final Note is the unreleased recording of Duane Allman's final performance with the group. Recorded on a simple portable tape recorder, The Final Note captures Duane's guitar genius during the concert at Painters Mill Music Fair in Owings Mills, MD, on October 17, 1971, just 12 days before his tragic motorcycle accident in Macon, GA. This Painters Mill concert was the final stop on an extensive tour for the band, which was at a peak of popularity following the July 1971 release of At Fillmore East, the ABB's iconic live album. This recording, though made on a 50-year-old audio cassette, features eight tracks from the band's usual repertoire, including energetic versions of "Statesboro Blues", "Hot 'Lanta" and "Whipping Post". Despite the obvious limitations of an old cassette, modern technological improvements help restore the magic of that memorable night. Accompanied by a 14-page booklet including detailed notes on the origins of this CD, as well as previously unpublished photographs from the concert of 10/17/71, The Final Note is a must-have for anyone who appreciates the musical excellence of the original Allman Brothers Band.
