Originally scheduled for release on January 20th, Ahmad Jamal finally found success with the release of his album ‘The Awaking’ in 1970. Accompanied by a trio consisting of Jamil Nasser (Double Bass) and Frank Grant (Drums), Ahmad Jamal delivered an essential opus to jazz fans. Ahmad Jamal honed his skills early on, accompanying Dinah Washington in the mid-1940s. His arrival in Chicago led to several important collaborations, and the artist formed his first Trio in the early 50s with Ray Crawford (Guitar) and Eddie Calhoun (Double Bass). Then, at the very beginning of the 1960s, he set out to conquer New York to establish his style in what was then the world's jazz capital.
