In 1979, Tequila and its boogie in French created a style... its style. Irresistible! Philippe Ménard, born on November 19, 1953, in Paray-le-Monial, discovered the guitar at 14 — a revelation that would shape his entire life. Inspired by the Anglo-Saxon rock of the 60s, from The Rolling Stones to Chuck Berry, he developed a visceral passion for music very early on. After a foundational shock discovering Johnny Winter on stage, he abandoned his studies to fully dedicate himself to the guitar. A determined self-taught musician, he forged his style through his early experiences in bands in Bordeaux, before making a name for himself on the Nantes scene. In the 70s, he took part in significant projects: Carol, then Cambouis, a punk band that became a local cult. But it was with Tequila, founded in 1977, that he fully asserted his artistic identity. The band blends blues, energetic rock, and lyrics in French, performing numerous concerts and supporting prestigious acts. Spotted by a Parisian label, Tequila released three albums between 1979 and 1983, before evolving towards an English-speaking repertoire and continuing the adventure until 1994. Since then, Philippe Ménard has led a prolific solo career, with thousands of concerts across Europe and a discography rich with about ten albums. From his improvised beginnings to his essential place in Nantes rock, Philippe Ménard embodies a free, authentic journey guided by an unwavering passion for rock.
