Ted Lucas

Description

This eponymous work by singer-songwriter and master guitarist Ted Lucas, released as an album, has garnered an almost mystical reputation among aficionados and collectors. Ted Lucas is a perfect marriage of brooding odes and raga-style instrumentation, considered by many to be, quite simply, the greatest private-press folk/psychedelic album ever recorded. Lucas was a fixture on the Detroit rock scene of the sixties and seventies. His first band, The Spike Drivers, was one of the very first true psychedelic bands, Motor City's answer to Jefferson Airplane and The Byrds. After that band broke up, Lucas paid his bills working session gigs with Motown. And it was there that he recorded, in 1972, the demo for Warner Brothers that would become Ted Lucas, released in two private editions in 1975 and unofficially known to friends and family as The OM Album, after Lucas's own label. The album was released with artwork by the legendary Stanley Mouse, originally created for Jimi Hendrix.
