Composer, virtuoso pianist, conductor, teacher, Camille Saint-Saëns was all of this but also a passionate archaeologist, astronomer, botanist, historian, illustrator, poet, and playwright. A seasoned traveler, he was the most famous composer of his time, acclaimed in North America, South America, the Middle East, and Europe. It is ironic, therefore, that his so varied body of work is not better known today - with the exception of a few pieces, including the famous Carnival of the Animals. Jean-Jacques Kantorow and the Tapiola Sinfonietta have already championed Saint-Saëns' music in several recordings. For this album, they are joined by Alexandre Kantorow, the son of the conductor nominated for the Victoires de la musique classique.
