Since the late 1960s, jazz drummer Takeo Moriyama has established himself as a major figure on the free jazz scene, first with the Yosuke Yamashita Trio, and more recently alongside the KYOTO JAZZ SEXTET, earning the respect of both older and newer generations.
Recorded in 1980 with his quartet, which includes Fumio Itabashi, this album is famous for having introduced the emotionally charged Japanese masterpiece “Watarase” for the first time. Among the other highlights are the energetic “Exchange” and the beautifully poignant “Goodbye.” Each track stands out, offering a sweeping performance where serenity and movement intertwine with organic fluidity — making this album one of the greatest in the history of Japanese jazz.
