Fans already know, the new System Of A Down is double and the first half comes out… before the other. Following Mezmerize, in stores before summer, Hypnotize is set to be released next November. The two “parts” were produced by Rick Rubin (and mixed by Andy Wallace) in partnership with guitarist Daron Malkian. It’s because he gave it his all in particularly intense studio sessions that the Californian quartet decided to release all of its new songs in two stages.
Adherents of a rather eccentric metal based on twisted riffs and tempo changes, SOAD brings together about ten tracks on this first installment, in the vein of their first album, which are reminiscent of Jane’s Addiction or Faith No More. Standouts include the haunting ballad Lost In Hollywood, Revenga which is almost danceable, and the very new wave Old School Hollywood.
The CD booklet is illustrated with photographs of paintings by Malkian's father.
