'SlyDee' is the new project of bassist and producer Sylvain Daniel, drawing on his deepest influences. - - As a musician, he is an essential figure in the modern jazz scene (he plays bass for Thomas de Pourquery, Laurent Bardainne & Tigre d’Eau Douce, both releasing on March 29, 2024…Julien Lourau, the electric experiences of Yom…) and a valuable ingredient in pop production (his bass lines can be found on albums by Jeanne Added 'Air & By Your Side', Jain 'The Roof', Redcar 'Les adorables étoiles', and he is the musical director for Camélia Jordana 'Facile x Fragile'…) - - As a composer and bandleader, Sylvain Daniel has already made a name for himself with 'Palimpseste', his project on Detroit (already a Choc Jazz Magazine and ffff Télérama selection for the 2018 albums of the year) proclaiming his love for music originating from Motor City (from jazz to house, soul, and hip-hop) and especially shouting the beauty and urgency of the arts and creation in a declining industrial world. Then in 2020 with 'Pauca Meae' (Choc: Jazz Magazine, ffff Télérama), writing for actor, electric quartet, and string quartet set to music the book IV of Victor Hugo's Contemplations; a precious UFO of discographic production bringing together the electric energies of Miles Davis, the saturated spleen of Nirvana, and classical writings inspired by Gabriel Fauré. - - Today, as a producer, Sylvain shines on his third album. SlyDee aims to be a musical unveiling where he invokes without artifice his foundational pillars: The great black music of Prince, Curtis Mayfield, James Brown, Chic, Sly & the Family Stone… an unrestrained taste for Instrumental Hip-Hop from Slum Village & J-Dilla, the tangy post-punk synthesizers of Talking Heads & Joy Division, and the electric and libertarian Jazz of Herbie Hancock and Miles Davis… A delightful cocktail, giving pride of place to groove and collective sound while providing immense space for play for this new group made up of musicians renowned for their improvisational talents. - - It is around this very specific musical universe that Sylvain Daniel has gathered his own dream team. Longtime companions like Vincent Taeger on drums (Tiger Tigre, Poni Hoax, Les Sacre, Tony Allen, Sébastien Tellier, Oxmo Puccino…) and Arnaud Roulin on synthesizers (Tigre d’Eau Douce, Supersonic, Poni Hoax, solo…). And new collaborations with Bruno Ruder on piano and Fender Rhodes (Yes is a pleasant country, duo w/ Jeanne Added…) and avant-garde trumpeter Aymeric Avice (Pomme de Terre, Jean-Louis…).
