Symphonie fantastique

Description

A whole world could separate the unbridled romanticism of Berlioz from the highly controlled art of Rameau, herald of late French baroque. A whole world, and yet, less than a century apart ("Hippolyte" was created in 1733, "Fantastique" in 1830), a similar madness connects two scores that are much less distant than the stylistic difference might suggest. A shared audacity in orchestration as well, combined with an innate sense of drama that does not hesitate to call upon many rhythmic or harmonic surprises. It is a rare exercise that the Swedish Radio Orchestra undertakes here, under the direction of Daniel Harding, who is unmatched in bringing together two genius pioneers: beyond purely factual echoes, a powerful breath animates them!
