BLOWN

Description

One of the most enigmatic groups from the classic era of the 4AD label, Swallow was formed in the early 1990s in London by Louise Trehy and Mike Mason. Discovered by Ivo Watts-Russell through a simple four-track demo sent to the label, the duo was quickly signed and entered the studio to record their debut album. Surrounded by Tom Greenhalgh on guitar and producer John Fryer, Swallow crafted a unique sonic universe, blending airy textures with immersive atmospheres. Released in 1992, Blow, their first album, captivated listeners with its ethereal layers and hypnotic aesthetic. Yet, dissatisfied with the final result, the group set out to rework certain tracks. These experiments gave rise to Blowback, a more ambient and dissonant reinterpretation of the album, released the same year in an ultra-limited edition. 4AD brings this cult work back into the spotlight with Blown, a special edition in 2LP + 12’’ and 2CD formats. This retrospective gathers Blow and Blowback, enriched with two previously unreleased tracks: « Blow » and « Lovesleep (Vocal Version) ». The collection benefits from a new mastering by Anne Taegart and a sleeve designed by Chris Bigg (v23). With this reissue, a cornerstone of dream pop emerges once again, as if rising from the mists of time and memory.
