Giya Kancheli, one of the most important Georgian composers, gained increasing fame after the advent of Glasnost in the Soviet Union, his works, notably his seven symphonies, achieving international success. Around the year 2000, Kancheli moved away from the opulence of these pieces to adopt a more restrained and introspective style, illustrated by the three works on this album.
