The first definitive and expanded reissue of Somewhere Over The Rainbow, the recording of the 1977 Sun Ra session at the Bluebird in Bloomington, Indiana, available on three vinyl records. The Arkestra was at the height of its art, releasing cult albums while touring Europe and developing thematic live performances that blended jazz history, cosmic narratives, collective chants, rhythms inspired by Africa and Egypt, and excerpts from the Great American Songbook. This recording includes reimagined standards such as Take The “A” Train, St. Louis Blues, and Over The Rainbow, as well as rarely recorded compositions by Sun Ra. The expanded edition from Strut restores previously cut tracks and preserves the natural transitions between them, offering a more complete insight into the aesthetic of Sun Ra and his Arkestra. Remastered from the original tapes by Technology Works, this record is presented in a triple gatefold sleeve with detailed liner notes by Chris Cutler and images from the original concert.
