The pianist Sullivan Fortner, a multi-Grammy nominee, is back in a trio! 2025 is shaping up to be Sullivan Fortner's year, with three nominations for the Grammy Awards, including Best Jazz Instrumental Album for his previous album Solo Game (Artwork Records). The year will also kick off beautifully with the release of his new trio album, "Southern Nights," scheduled for February 14, 2025. During a series of concerts at the Village Vanguard (NYC), Sullivan Fortner formed an all-star trio with bassist Peter Washington, known for his lyrical depth and groove, and drummer Marcus Gilmore, whose innovative rhythms have redefined modern jazz. The result is a raw live album that perfectly captures the unique energy of their performance at the Village Vanguard. The album includes, among other things, an original composition by Fortner, pieces by Allen Toussaint and Consuela Lee, as well as a heartfelt tribute to his late mentor, Bill Lee. "Southern Nights" pays homage to the music of New Orleans, which is so dear to Sullivan Fortner's heart, as he continues to stand out as one of the most acclaimed jazz pianists of his generation, offering music that is both timeless and deeply personal.
