Straight out of the pages of history, Subhan Ahmed Nizami belongs to the prestigious Hindustani music school "Qawwal Baché" (Delhi gharana of Karachi) founded in the 13th century by Hazrat Amir Khusro (1253-1325), which flourished through its connection to the shrines of saints and as masters of music in imperial and princely courts. Subhan Ahmed Nizami is a direct descendant of Amir Khusro's first student, Mian Samaath: since the 13th century, there has never been a break in the transmission chain in this dynasty of musicians where musical secrets have been taught from father to son for 33 generations over more than 750 years. Subhan Ahmed Nizami possesses nearly 2000 handwritten poems in their original languages (Persian, Braj, Hindi, Sanskrit, Urdu), which would undoubtedly find an honorable place in any museum. For this first CD, he has chosen to present compositions drawn from this family repertoire: a qawwali song with deep roots, essentially a message of peace, brotherhood, and spiritual love.
