Strange Kind Of Women is the world’s only all-female Deep Purple tribute band! The group recreates the magic of Deep Purple live to perfection! The band members are all international professional musicians. It takes fearless musicians to summon the spirit of Deep Purple, and a fiery spirit as well as unique talent to transform these sacred songs into bold new forms. Formed in 1968, this legendary British band stands in the pantheon of rock’n’roll; taking on a repertoire spanning six decades is no small feat. But Purple was also a band of outstanding improvisers, whose live performances — immortalized on the album *Made In Japan* (1972) — pushed boundaries and set the music free. It is this same rebellious spirit that drives Strange Kind Of Women today: an all-female supergroup whose electrifying concerts pay tribute to Purple’s timeless repertoire while shaking up conventions. “Deep Purple songs are part of rock history and have always been personally with me,” says founder and guitarist Eliana Cargnelutti. Capturing the energy of two explosive European concerts given in 2025-2026 — *Made In Germany I* marks a new milestone for a band whose eight-year journey has been meteoric. Eliana is, on her own, one of Italy’s most respected blues-rock guitarists and singer-songwriters. But in 2018, she set out to find four world-class musicians with the alchemy, creativity, passion and character needed to put their own stamp on one of rock’s most sacred repertoires. “We have very different personalities, but when we go on stage, we manage to fuse them into a powerful collective energy,” explains Eliana, a member of the “Made In Germany I” lineup featuring exceptional vocalist Ronnie Grace, jazz piano virtuoso Margherita Gruden, bassist Paola Zadra (who has accompanied major stars) and drummer and influencer Chiara Cotugno, a true web phenomenon. After their live debut in January 2019 — with a band name nodding to Deep Purple’s cult 1971 single — Strange Kind Of Women received dream support barely two months later, when Ian Paice, founding drummer of the iconic British band, came to play with them. “They really do a very good job, they sound excellent and they give it their all,” said the only Deep Purple member to have been there since 1968. “I really enjoyed playing with them.” Seven years later, an intergenerational audience around the world would agree: *Made In Germany I* captures the full atmosphere felt from the front row. “You can really feel the energy the band was giving off during those concerts,” says Eliana, who also produced the album to give it maximum impact. “When you record live, you can’t control everything like in the studio, and that’s exactly what makes the experience so unique: everything that happens in that exact moment is etched forever.” Opening with *Purplebound* — an impetuous fanfare composed by Cargnelutti — the setlist ticks all the essential boxes: 70s classics such as *Highway Star*, *Speed King*, *Never Before*, *Into The Fire*, *Strange Kind Of Woman* and *Black Night*, through to MkIII-era highlights like *Mistreated* and the fan-favorite 80s anthem *Perfect Strangers*.
