Schumann & Moscheles: 1851 Cello Sonatas

Description

For his latest album, cellist Steven Isserlis draws inspiration from the year 1851, rich in inventions, exhibitions, and creativity. The sonatas by Moscheles and Schumann (Violin Sonata No. 2, specially arranged for cello by Isserlis) both date from that year, and are interspersed with four miniatures. The album highlights an 1851 Érard piano (played here by Connie Shih) that won a medal at the Great Exhibition in London in 1851.
