The Searchers were by far the most remarkable group to emerge during the British beat boom of 1963, dominated by Merseybeat. They had a great look and sound – they really sounded American – and their covers of American R&R, R&B, folk, and mainstream pop records were always sensational. Indeed, they were among the very few British groups to regularly improve upon the original versions. This box set consists of the 45s that inspired them, shaping their original sound and style, several of which are surprisingly little known, with a few bordering on the completely obscure. This includes records like "Sweets For My Sweet" by the Drifters, "Love Potion No.9" by the Clovers, "Ain't going to Kiss Ya" by the Ribbons, "All Right" by the Grandisons, "Just Like Me" by the Coasters (Ain't That), "What Have They Done To The Rain" by Joan Baez, and "Bumble Bee" by LaVern Baker, which were either hits in the UK and/or the US, or fan favorites.
