Dave “Love” Lee and John Morales, two of the most prolific remixers on the disco scene, have teamed up for one of their most ambitious projects to date: “Mixed To The Maxxx”. After obtaining permission from the original legendary artists, the duo took the multitrack tapes of many disco, funk and soul classics and reworked them… to the max! If “Remixed With Love” stands as a benchmark for Dave Lee, “Mixed To The Maxxx” places that legacy alongside Morales’ rich M+M discography, the result of several decades of work. Lee brings his dense, groovy musical touch to artists such as Harold Melvin, Syreeta, Lenny Williams and The Brand New Heavies, while Morales applies his dancefloor-ready M+M style and revisits tracks such as Barry White, The Temptations and Loleatta Holloway, not forgetting Dennis Coffey’s classic breakbeat, “Scorpio”, to the great delight of DJs and collectors. Both work from the original tapes, bringing back passages that are barely audible, or even completely inaudible, in the source mixes. This collaboration has been a long time coming. Lee and Morales first mentioned the idea of working together about ten years ago, and bringing Mixed To The Maxxx to life required five years of patient work: searching for usable tracks, obtaining the necessary permissions and navigating a complex legal landscape where many of the best songs are now owned by major labels that are increasingly reluctant to authorize remixes. Mixed To The Maxxx is available as two double LPs and a double CD. Vinyl buyers get an exclusive bonus: a remix of “Double Cross” by First Choice by Dave Lee, not included on the CD edition.
