Stephen Ulrich is the frontman of the very cult New York trio Big Lazy and is one of those champions of the New York underground whose audience is often made up of half musicians who appreciate the originality and power of his music.
Music from This American Life is a commission from the NPR radio show (also producers of Tiny Desk) This American Life. A sound that evokes the soundtracks of a black and white film noir combined with a surf made of harmonies inherited from the downtown scene - from Lounge Lizards to Marc Ribot. Ulrich incorporates elements of jazz mixed with rockabilly - a style sometimes dubbed "crime jazz" and which has also been described as potentially being "the soundtrack of a return to prison."
