Thunder

Description

Stephan Micus is an absolutely unique musician and composer. For years he has been collecting and studying instruments from all over the world and using them in a completely original way to take the listener on a new musical journey each time. In 'Thunder', his 25th solo album for ECM, he places at the heart of his sound world the four-meter-long Tibetan dung chen trumpet, an instrument he only recently learned and is using on record for the first time. It was the thunderous sound of this instrument that gave him the idea to title the album this way and dedicate its nine tracks to deities from around the world. "I dedicate this music to the great family of thunder gods, found everywhere in the world, humbly hoping that when they hear it, their destructive powers will somehow be appeased," he explains. Stephan Micus also plays instruments from Tibet, India, Burma, Borneo, Siberia, Japan, South America, Gambia, Namibia, Sweden, and Bavaria on this album.
