Homo fugit velut umbra

Description

Court musician, chapel master, chorister, harpist, organist, Stefano Landi is the embodiment of those exceptional musicians who vied for stages and salons in early 17th century Italy. The works collected here are a shortcut to his multiple talents. The musical and poetic language remains astonishingly modern, rich in surprising harmonies, tinged with influences from the popular music of the time. In addition to Landi's works, the passacaglia by an anonymous composer, which is actually closer in form to a tarantella, gives its title to the album.
